Ulrika Krishnamurti
(she/her)
I am a psychotherapeutic counsellor based in London, UK, offering therapy to people all over the world. My approach is driven by research as well as by intuition and soul.
Alongside my therapeutic practice, I have a background in theatre, movement, performance, and writing. Theatre is where I learned about the union of mind, body, spirit, and soul, which is what I believe therapy can also be about. Working with the body, stories, role play, and sharing one's creative expression with others as well as being witnessed by others, can lead to unexpected and profound internal shifts. I believe that this mind-body-spirit-soul integration and connection need not be something that is experienced merely on stage or only when the stars align for us. I have myself experienced moments of deep knowing and of feeling deeply seen, heard, and understood, in therapy. Creativity often unlocks the door to such potentially transformative experiences. Changes in long-held attitudes, feelings, thoughts, or behaviours can often come about when we begin to allow different parts of ourselves to be seen in a safe-enough and nonjudgmental way.
I also value a research-based and scientific approach. I am an alumnus of King's College London, where I completed my MSc in the Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health. I continue to pursue my research interests in the field of mental health, specifically in the areas of trauma, creative arts/drama-based therapy, dementia, grief, and pre/post-natal maternal mental health.
I trained in Integrative Transpersonal Counselling at Re-Vision in London, where the emphasis was as much on experiential understanding as it was on theory. This means that I have spent a long time exploring therapeutic approaches by living and experiencing them for myself, rather than simply reading about them. I continue to 'live' the work with my clients and I believe we are two wounded human beings in the therapeutic space, rather than one knowing any better than the other.
I have many years of experience in working with bereaved clients. Grief, loss, and sorrow can be raw, wild, and relentless, but there is much richness to be found on the other side.
I strictly adhere to the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) code of ethics and receive regular confidential clinical supervision.
